The American University in the Emirates invites Ph.D. holder applicants for a faculty position.

Academic Year: 2026–2027 (August 2026)

The faculty member will be required to teach in the following specialization:

  • Nursing

Instruction Language: English & Arabic

Teaching Load: 12 credit hours per academic semester

Job Purpose

Responsible for providing students with professional expertise in nursing education, teaching, assessing student work, academic advising, participating in administrative and committee activities, professional service, research, and community service.

Qualifications & Education

  • Ph.D. in Nursing or a closely related field from an accredited or internationally recognized university.
  • Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. by the time of recruitment from an internationally accredited university.
  • Minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate studies in the required field.
  • Minimum of two research publications in Scopus-indexed journals.
  • A valid professional nursing license/registration, where applicable, is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at an internationally accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 publications within the last 5 years.
  • Proven record of excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate and/or graduate level.
  • Professional or clinical experience in Nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in clinical teaching, simulation-based education, or nursing skills laboratory instruction is an advantage.

Skills / Training / Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of nursing theories, clinical practices, evidence-based nursing, and current developments in the nursing profession.
  • Knowledge of contemporary nursing education, clinical teaching, and student assessment methods.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and review.
  • Record of professional accomplishment, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Continued research activity and interest in collaboration with other faculty members.
  • Ability to integrate web-based, simulation-based, and digital technologies into teaching and learning.
  • Ability to promote evidence-based practice and critical thinking among nursing students.
  • Willingness to provide service to the University and the College.
  • Excellent English proficiency and communication skills for faculty teaching in English.
  • Excellent Arabic proficiency and communication skills for faculty teaching in Arabic.
  • Ability to use contemporary teaching methods that encourage critical thinking, inquiry, clinical reasoning, and practical application.

Job Description

1. Instructional Delivery (Teaching Performance)

  • Deliver research- and practice-driven teaching in Nursing and related areas.
  • Apply appropriate pedagogical techniques that stimulate student inquiry, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and engagement.
  • Develop and deliver course materials that provide students with a broad and coherent body of nursing knowledge.
  • Facilitate the development of professional nursing skills and competencies through engaging teaching methods and appropriate learning activities.
  • Incorporate current evidence-based nursing practices, clinical guidelines, and professional standards into teaching.
  • Conduct and support clinical, simulation, and laboratory-based learning activities where applicable.
  • Promote safe, ethical, patient-centered, and culturally appropriate nursing practice among students.

2. Instructional Management

  • Effectively manage the instructional process.
  • Prepare course materials, syllabi, learning activities, and teaching resources in accordance with University and College requirements.
  • Maintain an effective, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Integrate appropriate digital technologies, simulation tools, and other educational technologies into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ensure that clinical and practical learning activities are conducted in accordance with applicable academic and professional requirements.

3. Assessment and Evaluation

  • Evaluate student performance and grade student work in accordance with approved assessment policies.
  • Provide clear assessment criteria that reflect course content and intended learning outcomes.
  • Develop appropriate theoretical, practical, clinical, and/or simulation-based assessments to measure students' knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  • Assess students' clinical reasoning, professional competencies, communication skills, and ability to apply nursing knowledge in practice.
  • Establish clear expectations for students and ensure fair, transparent, and unbiased assessment practices.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support students' academic and professional development.

4. Curriculum Development and Review

Contribute to the regular review and improvement of existing nursing curricula to ensure quality, relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with professional and academic standards.

For Quality:

  • Ensure currency and relevance of nursing theories, clinical practices, evidence-based practices, and professional developments.
  • Maintain intellectual rigor appropriate to the level of the degree program.
  • Ensure alignment between course content, learning outcomes, nursing competencies, and professional requirements.
  • Incorporate current developments in healthcare, nursing practice, patient safety, and healthcare technology.

For Effectiveness:

  • Support increasingly complex presentation and application of nursing theories, principles, and practices.
  • Promote increasingly complex levels of analysis, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and development of nursing competencies.
  • Strengthen the application of nursing theories and principles to clinical and healthcare contexts.
  • Contribute to the development and review of clinical, laboratory, and simulation-based learning activities.

5. Research and/or Scholarship

  • Actively engage in scholarly and research activities in the area of Nursing and related fields.
  • Publish peer-reviewed research in reputable and Scopus-indexed journals.
  • Contribute to the research mission and academic development of the University.
  • Seek opportunities for research collaboration with faculty members and external academic, healthcare, and professional institutions.
  • Encourage and support evidence-based practice and research activities among nursing students.

6. Professional Development

  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the latest academic, clinical, and professional practices in Nursing.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, conferences, training programs, and other professional development activities.
  • Keep current with developments in nursing education, clinical practice, teaching methodologies, simulation, educational technology, research, and relevant professional certifications.
  • Maintain relevant professional knowledge and competencies required for effective nursing education.

7. Academic Advising and Academic Success

  • Provide academic advising and guidance to nursing students.
  • Assist students with curriculum planning and understanding program learning outcomes and nursing competencies.
  • Provide guidance related to academic progression, professional development, clinical education, and career planning.
  • Support students in developing the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for successful nursing practice.
  • Identify students who require additional academic support and provide appropriate guidance and referrals.

8. Service

  • Participate in University and College committees, task forces, and working groups.
  • Contribute to accreditation, recruitment, research administration, curriculum development, and other institutional activities.
  • Participate in professional and community service activities related to Nursing, healthcare, and higher education.
  • Support partnerships and engagement with healthcare organizations and professional nursing bodies where appropriate.
  • Provide service to the University, College, nursing profession, healthcare community, and wider community as appropriate.
